Railway Engine 2857
Learnt a lot today - including that this is a 2-8-0 Great Western Railway Heavy Goods Steam Locomotive which is now in the care of the Severn Valley Railway which is celebrating 50 years of its existence this year. We travelled in a London and North Eastern Railway First Class Carriage pulled by Locomotive 2857 between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth today.
We had an interesting time wandering the streets and alleyways of Bridgnorth, watched the cliff railway descend between High Town and Low Town before embarking on our return journey which we broke at Highley to go round the Severn Valley Railway Museum. What a great museum that is displaying some fantastic machines and giving the history of the railway!
Had loads of potential Blips today but I loved the timeless atmosphere of this one taken at about 9.45 this morning.
Brilliant Day!
