Maerdy Mining Memorial
First trip out of the house in three days started with an albeit shaky walk around a local market with my grandparents, mum and lil' sis'.
Then a walk down to the new memorial piece with various members of the family- a fitting tribute to many men who lost their lives underground-fortunately our grand father was spared that fate. The wheel is from the local pit which was the last one in the Rhondda and the masonry was from the workmen's hall that had previously been demolished. Such a privilege to see how a community values its heritage. They fought for three years to be granted the right to honour the tragic loss of lives.
Glad to have been able to take a look at it and to have taken in some much needed fresh air. This place really is beautiful.
