Why I love Sutherland..

..it started of misty again this morning, another tupperware day. But then it lifted enough for us to see the underside of the cloud, and then some more, and there was a hint of blue!

Breakfast, Archered, and eggs collected, web-site updated, and then out for a Sunday walk.

Drove 1 mile to the old peat road and parked. And then set off along the track. Well, Tanni set off and we followed! Walked around 3 miles, half over barren trackless moorland, heather, moss, burns and rocks, and finally came to the view of Loch Coill a' Ghorm Locha.

Views out to Ben Stac (centre), and Arkle and Foinaven to the left. A little obscured by clouds.

The weather cleared up nicely. This landscape is littered with lochs, looking up the side of one loch near Glen Scourie, we could clearly see four lochans rising up the hillside, each flowing into the next.

Spotted a couple of clumps of frogspawn, but it didn't look very healthy. The normally black eggs had turned white, and were looking a bit furry. There were some black eggs still which had developed into elongated tadpoles, but there was no movement in any of them..

Found an old numberplate, which I'm trying to find out details for. What vehicle was it on, and who did it belong to. Number is OYK 614, so it's pre 1963. The YK means it was first registered in Central London. The piece of iron it was originally fixed to had mostly rusted away, but the 3 brass nuts and bolts were still holding some to the number plate. A squirt of WD40, and I was able to loosen the nuts, and then unscrew by hand. Amazing for over 50 year metal.

Tanni had a great run around, chasing heather stalks, and paddling in stagnant puddles..
