Scenes from everyday life

William III

Another Royal statue, a little out of sequence.

William III stands on horseback in St James's Square.

Beneath the horse's feet is a molehill over which William's horse stumbled in 1702 sending William to the floor in a fatal fall.

For many years afterwards, Jacobites would drink a toast to the "little man in the velvet jacket".
