Crocus Pocus

Monday was amazingly warm, almost more like summer than spring. We recently spotted some crocus blooms in the yard, finally; and so the Dancing Girls and I set out to have a look.

As you might imagine, such a sunny and warm day led to thoughts of sunbathing. And so the first Dancing Girl climbed aboard one of the blooms and turned her face to the sun. And in a minute, a smaller voice was heard saying:

"Dear sister, is there room on that bloom for two?"

Well, of course, a sister cannot be denied. And so it was that suddenly there were TWO Dancing Girls sitting on the bloom. (The bloom looked a bit overloaded at that point, and started to bend a bit, so the shot that I picked to show you was from early in these festivities when there was just the one crocus bloom rider on board.)

The song to accompany this scene is a peculiar classic rock song called Hocus Pocus, by Focus, as performed on NBC's Midnight Special in 1973. The normal song length runs about six minutes, but this is a faster version that takes only about four.  So this performance is a bit frenetic, and yes, of course, it includes yodeling.  :-)

P.S. In Further News from the Yard . . . The Godfather of Bunnies!

Aside from the crocus blooms, there is further exciting news from the yard. One of the bunnies is building a nest! It is interesting that these proceedings should begin the very day after Easter.

My husband, who has been nurturing the bunnies and feeding them through what was a long and arduous winter, is just about beside himself about the nest. For on this day, Mini Bunzini took him to it and showed it to him. Just a pile of leaves, really, near a cement planter by the deck, just outside our bedroom window.

What followed the discovery was general excitement shot through with what can only be described as nerves. My husband placed a plastic table over the area, to keep it dry (it's supposed to rain most of the week). Once back inside, he paced near the bedroom window, wringing his hands: What to do, what to do?

I did explain that it is probably best if we give the bunny some privacy during this time; even better if we don't draw any undue attention to the little nest. But later in the day, I noticed that my husband had brought some nice, dry grass from the meadow and placed it nearby, and added a second plastic table.

And then he stewed and stewed. What will he be to this new generation of bunnies that we anticipate may be arriving? And in the end, he decided he would be the Godfather; yes, he will be The Godfather of Bunnies.
