St Michael's, East Peckham, Kent.
Looks much better LARGE
Out on my Tuesday bike ride and decided to take a narrow hilly lane which I usually avoid. Imagine my surprise when I came across this gem. Disused since 1976, but under the auspices of the Churches Conservation Trust, it commands wonderful views over the Kentish countryside. I quote from the website.....
Originally Norman, the church seems to have expanded to its present size around 1300; the piers and arches are clearly 14th-century, the windows and south porch mainly 15th-century, and the shingled spirelet has an attractive weathervane dating from 1704.
The churchyard has some lovely 18th-century headstones.
Might well ride that way again - despite the steep hill !
