Scalloway

Scalloway was the base from which the "Shetland Bus" operated during WWII.  This entailed Norwegian fishing boats crossing the North Sea from occupied Norway with refugees, and returning with weapons and ammunition.  In 1943, after many of these boats were lost to bad weather and German attacks, the US Navy donated three heavily armed submarine chasers to accompany them.
