My father in law saw active service in the Second World War with the South African forces.

He was posted to East Africa where he was given a piece of elephant tusk. He was also chased by elephants, a memory that stayed with him forever.

He was then posted to North Africa and saw action at El Alamein.

During his time away, he carved this napkin ring from the fragment of tusk. It is square and bears the armorial crest of his wife's family.
