Great Tits waking the Sycamore Buds

It was quite fascinating watching a pair of Great Tits going from one bud to another.Giving them a gentle tap and a comforting kiss.As if to tell them that Spring is here and its time to wake up?
   They obviously get some nutrition from the buds.Possible a little sweet nectar?
