Something positive from the EU!

This is Corporation Street, Manchester and my main shot shows the area where the IRA bomb went off on the 15th June 1996 - just where the bridge is now!  Today, we have the benefit of European funds (hurrah) to help build 2 brand new Metro lines right along Corporation Street which is the very heart of the shopping area of Manchester (top right).  I love the contrast between the old Corn Exchange (founded 1837, rebuilt 1903 - what would they have said about all of this?) and the ultra modern Urbis Centre (now the National Football Museum).  An awful lot of history here eh?  Ps - that bundle of bags and the blue sleeping bag (middle right)  will be someone's home!  There is a growing homeless problem in Manchester right now (probably elsewhere too - especially London)
