"Sur la pont d'Avignon"

A day out to Avignon today. We parked near le Palais des Papes and walked down on to the bridge. When I learnt the song in middle school french I never expected to be standing on the bridge one day! It was lovely by the river. We missed out on the free ferry because they took their lunch break but we sat near the bridge for our picnic.

Then on to Villeneuve-lez-Avignon where we climbed the Tour Philippe le Bell for a wonderful panoramic view of the Rhone and Avignon. The 3D show of what the experts think the bridge originally looked like was great and took us on a virtual walk across it.

We took a detour on the way home to once more drive through the Camargue National Park.
