Liberation..."The Final Push"
70 years ago the allied forces start "Operation Amherst" in to liberate the north and east of the Netherlands. They dropped 702 French paratroopers of the Special Air Service (SAS) in to our province Drenthe to attack bridges , disturb enemy movement by ambush them and create chaos among them. a French troop of 21 parachutist attacked the HQ of the commanding German General in our Village Westerbork. 3 French paratroopers died and 3 where wounded and captured by the German enemy. 2 days after this attack small a Polish tank command was sent to help the French para's and drive into our village to search for them. a day later the Canadians liberated our village.
The next three days we remember and celebrate this in our village with "The Final Push" and music, singers, veterans of the French SAS, a simulated attack on the HQ, a poppy-drop from historical planes and a liberation tour of 200 World War 2 vehicles (Keep them Rolling)
