A Lucky Escape.

In years of cooking I've never seen this happen, but a few minutes ago I was startled by this small spider rushing onto the hob.

Although repulsed by the heat of the gas flame and being obviously confused, the interloper decided to do several circuits of the range before being gently persuaded to spin gossamer and abseil out of danger, presently to seek refuge here under the cooker.

Phew.
