Wanderings & Witterings

Super trooper

Tuesday was my first full day in Stockholm and it started with a visit to the wonderful 'must-see' Vasa Museum, containing the almost-intact 17th century warship that sank just a few hundred metres into its maiden voyage. After spending much of the  morning there, after lunch it was onto the nearby ABBA Museum, which it is fair to say, is quite different in just about every way!

The first noticeable thing was the price - entry to the Vasa Museum was 130Kr (a little over £10) while entry to the ABBA Museum was 215Kr (£16-£17), although there was a discount if one had pre-booked online.
Anyway, the ABBA Museum was much better than I had expected and contained details of the four members' early careers in the Swedish folk scene and their rise to prominence in the pop scene even before their Eurovision success brought them to world-wide attention.

There were gold discs and costumes and all the usual paraphernalia one would expect, but this was a multimedia and also interactive museum with karaoke booths and the opportunity to perform live on stage with 'the group', thanks to holograms and such like. I suppose it was this interactive element - into which many of the younger visitors seemed to be immersed - that was the reason for the high entry price.

I had visited this museum for a bit of light relief and amusement, but found that I actually rather enjoyed the experience, despite choosing not to participate in any of the interactive opportunities!
