It's All Relative
It was very, very blustery today. We headed out to Portnahaven where we saw the helicopter go out to the lighthouse for its annual maintenance. It was quite entertaining watching the short flights as crew were dropped off and picked up again (the lighthouse is on an island).
We then had a fascinating afternoon at the Rhinns Hall at an exhibition of old Portnahaven photographs, (obviously with the usual hospitality of fabulous home baking of course).
Mr Q was able to find photos of his Grandmother and Great Aunties, a photo of his Great, Great, Great Grandfather and many other cousins.
This picture shows Semi-Q beside a photo of her Great Grandmother, Jessie McNiven. The other girl in the photo is Mary C McNiven, Jessie's sister and the bride for whom the song 'Mairi's Wedding' was written.
It was particularly interesting to be in a place where so many families still have connections and return often. It was also fun to meet up with so many relations....some quite distant, but all with a love for Islay.
We walked round the coastal walk at Port Wemyss and then headed out to Kilchoman for a last walk on the beach until the next visit. It was seriously wild!
Heading home tomorrow morning if all goes to plan with the ferries! It's been a great week.
