Emerging.
After hanging as a chrysalis for 2 weeks the monarch caterpillar has transformed into a butterfly ! Gradually it's wings unfolded and it was able to fly after a couple of hours. Most Monarch butterflies lay eggs after mating and then die at about five weeks of age. However these ones that hatch late ,in the autumn, will fly north for the winter and return here next spring ready to start the cycle all over again. As they only live on the swan plant, which we have, we can expect them to return.
