Queenstown to Te Anau
When we woke this morning, there was fresh snow on the mountains around Queenstown and the sun was shining beautifully on them. During breakfast, we decided to go on the gondola up to the top of the mountain. By the time we got to the gondola, it was snowing on the mountain again, and the fog was starting to come in again. At the top of the mountain, it was snowing quite heavy. We had morning tea, and decided to leave, and start on our travels to Te Anau.
Leaving Queenstown the snow was getting thicker, so we decided to purchase chains in case we needed them.
The roads were not too bad. At times we were travelling through snow blizzards, but the graders and ploughs were busy clearing the snow from the road.
We stopped for lunch at Mossburn, then travelled onto Te Anau, where the sun was shining.
It's cold outside. I expect we will wake up in the morning to a terrific frost, with temperatures into the negatives.
