Clutch of Coot Eggs

Seen on a circuit of Charnwood Water this afternoon. The parents were alarmed when Basil and I passed by. They were both on the water.

The nesting platform is wedged in a fork in a tree which is partially submerged, which ought to protect it from predators. But I think a fox could easily jump the distance from the shore. Must keep watching to see how the pair manage.
