There's some kids in my tree...

FAB day today. Katie and I started the day snuggled in bed reading. She then asked for a breakfast garden picnic and put together her own continental style breakfast, plus strawberries and cucumber. We ate on a blanket in the garden as Ernie played in the playpen. Bert had staged a very clear protest at going out. We then pottered for most of the morning; a bit of tidying, homework finishing, reading poetry. She's loving poems at the moment, especially if it is a particularly rhythmic poem. She had a tongue twister one that made her giggle too.
Late morning, we headed to the woods to meet friends. We used to all live in the same village when Katie was tiny. Some of the children I haven't seen in quite a while. We had an absolutely glorious time. Tree climbing, hide and seek, rope swings, den building and bank scrambling. We even let the children join in too. I'd found this (really quite high) tree. Climbed it. And was followed by almost all the children. We made a pretty epic den, using some gigantic branches. Katie got stuck scrambling down a bank and it led to an adorable moments as one of her friends stood holding her and reassuring her as I got to her. He was very sweet and gallant! The children were all quite impressively dirty as we left. We took them all to the garden centre for afternoon tea. We'd got vouchers for BOGOF through the door. So Katie and I each enjoyed homemade huge cream scones, Victoria sponge, brownie, a round of sandwiches and salad - though there was a bit of trading of bits. Much to the amusement of her friends, Katie really enjoyed a pot of (decaff) tea with it. A very fab time with friends to end the holiday!
It had dawned on Katie that it was the real end of the holiday by the end of the day and she found it a bit challenging. We had a long, warm bath before snuggling with some more poems and songs.
