Follow the Leader!
It's been a long day. I was out weeding in the front yard at 7:15am, getting ready for our final truckload of bark, which was due to arrive in early afternoon. Weeding was challenging under our low-hanging Japanese maples and my back felt pretty scrunched up afterward, so I was glad that I had my YMCA exercise class this morning.
I did a couple of errands afterward, ate a quick light lunch, and then A arrived with the bark. Phil and I worked with her to spread it, which took a couple of hours, and then we did some watering and I swept the loose bark off the sidewalk and out of our street. In between those chores, I spent about half an hour wandering in the front and back yards, in blip-search mode. The overcast light wasn't exciting, but I did enjoy watching busy bees on the usual plants, as well as finding a delightful tricolor image (my favorite trio of colors).
That appealing blue/green/yellow photo would have been my blip, had I not seen the many bees on the chive flowers in the front yard. They were so engaged in their own business that they hardly noticed me bending over them and snapping away. I shot over 100 photos in that half hour, and this was my favorite of several shots of these two bees ranging amongst the chive flowers. I like the way the "following" bee is reaching with her right back leg for a foothold and how close she is to the "leader." You can see that more clearly here.
(I need an early night tonight, so I'll catch up with everyone tomorrow or Saturday.)
