Songkran Day 1
After two flights from the Gold Coast to Chiang Mai (via Kuala Lumpur), I arrived early at my hostel and met my friend Jess. We couldn't check in to our room so we just went out to enjoy the water festivities. I bought a big water gun and we roamed the packed streets getting permanently soaked. It was just like being a little kid again. It must be the world's biggest water fight, there were thousands of people on every street. I loved it all but quite a lot of people use iced water which isn't fun, especially when you get a full bucket of it tipped over you!
The whole city is alive with lots of music pumping from various bars and temporary stages, food stalls, wet tourists but mostly Thai people gathering from all over the country to celebrate the new year.
In the evening the city was deserted, presumably as everyone is getting rest ready for day two!
