Quilting- ancient and modern
Called in to see the textile and quilting exhibition at the Smith museum and art gallery in Stirling because friends had told me that this was an exhibition worth seeing for it combined contemporary art with traditional craftsmanship.
The members of the Quilters Guild were given the theme of pewter and asked to iinterpret it.
This piece by Glasgow School of Art graduate Gillian Bell is an exemplary example of where craft and art merge, a view shared too by artist Sharee Currie whom I found deeply engrossed in studying it.
Not surprisingly this is proving to be a very popular and accessible exhibition – it’s art for all.
