WHAM!!

I took this photo today of something I've never watched in person.  The man in this flat bottom boat was operating a pile driver to insert new posts in the water and ground beneath to create part of the renovation of the docks.  He said the casino boat was moving to this new docking area.  (Casinos are illegal, but as long as gambling happens offshore, it not subject to those laws.  The casino boats take gamblers into the ocean each afternoon and evening.)  Near the top of the tall shaft on the right is a 2500 to 3000 pound weight he was dropping on the top of the post to drive it toward being 20' into the ground.  It moved about 6 - 8 inches down with each drop of the weight.  It was quite loud when the weight hit the post.  He was trying to get the top of the post even with the two shorter posts on the right.  You can see where the post is now near the top of the shaft under the weight..  It was fun to watch him and his machine work.  A new experience to me.
