Cockatoo kerfuffle
Today, as I sat quietly typing job applications and filling in forms, and rewarding myself with some MOOC study time, I noticed an amazing noise coming from the front garden. Creaking doors, lots of them. Much squawking. I went out to discover a flock of yellow-tailed black cockatoos flying, playing, eating and arguing. They glided, glid or (archaic) glode from tree to tree black scarves whipping in the wind. Then the tone of the arguments changed. A different kind of squawk, the more familiar sulphur-crested squawk. Black and white vying for supremacy in the front yard. I was rather relieved to discover that avian argument was merely vocal and that they avoided physical violence. Sorry I couldn't get a better photo. Don't have access to a decent camera at the moment (my shipment is still en route from Prague).
Trekked to Fyshwick today to trawl the 2nd hand book stores for books on balcony food growing. Sadly no luck. It seems I am going to have to splash out and pay full price for Indira Naidoo's book, 'The Edible Balcony'. Meanwhile my peas have poked their tiny green shoots above the soil. If the possums don't get them, maybe I'll have a crop of garden peas. Treated myself to an excellent cup of coffee at Ona Coffee across the road from the bookstores.
