IMPACT believes that prevention is better than cure when it comes to a disabling illness. Our partner organisation – IMPACT Foundation Bangladesh - is able to spread this message to remote rural villages, reaching thousands of people every year, by putting communities at the heart of their work.

Field workers employed locally build relationships with residents, promoting health education and awareness through Mother’s Clubs.  Locally respected figures such as Traditional Birth Attendants and school teachers are offered support and training in identifying pregnancy complications or illnesses early-on.  Families are helped to establish Home Gardens to combat malnutrition and provide an extra source of income.  And water filters are installed in households to prevent arsenic from contaminating the drinking water.

These small and simple steps not only enable people to live healthy lives, but also as a consequence, ameliorate poverty that is too often coupled with disability or ill health in the poorest countries.
