Nesting
Everything in Nature is a flurry of activity at the moment. Blossom and leaf buds are bursting out almost as I watch them, and outside the window the birds are flitting everywhere collecting bits and pieces to weave into their nests. My - ahem - "nature reserve" of a garden can most definitely provide all the flotsam and jetsam they need. The starlings were particularly noisy this morning. It sounded just as if they were squealing with delight at finding some straw-like stalks which would come in handy.
I'm slowly starting to do a bit of spring nesting in my own home now that I've had a couple of weeks' rest. I haggled with the assistant at Homebase and got a huge Boston fern at half price because it had been neglected in the store and was looking rather bedraggled, and I also got a pair of gardening gloves free with a coupon. With a bit of tidying up, some water and a lot of T.L.C. the fern is looking much happier now that I've rescued it. In fact, the whole flat is slowly being rescued after its long period of neglect. Having been constantly ruled by the clock through my entire adult life, it still hasn't sunk in that there's no hurry to get things done any more. I hope this new mellow, laid back feeling doesn't wear off too quickly!
I couldn't decide between this morning's photo of a starling carrying a scrap of straw in its beak and this evening's view from my window. But as I like to try and blip little things which might have gone unnoticed, the starling won.
