Another tractor day?
Certainly wasn't planned this way. Up as early as possible to get the horses down and dogs walked so that I could do as much tree clearing as possible before the planned action tomorrow.
On the dog walk spotted Siegfried doing some tree clearing alongside a stream. A tree had fallen victim to the storm but was helped by beavers having undermined the banks around it. Close to where Siegfried is standing is a 3' deep hole and half way between Flash and the tractor rear wheel another hole that appeared when the tractor drove over it and only just managed to get out of under it's own power.
Siegfried gave up farming some years ago and sold almost all his equipment including his big 4WD Deutz but everyone around here has to have a tractor so he has kept his 1964 Deutz D25.2, a 20HP air cooled two cylinder machine. He rents out all his fields and we have a small commercially unviable horse field from him next to the house. In the days he still had his machinery, he used to do our haylage and help out when we got in to trouble eg 50cm of snow overnight (March 2006).
Having spent much to much time chatting, headed home and then met another farmer and ended up having another long chat. His tractor was actually more interesting, a Fendt implement carrier but will do that another day.
Finally got home and it was lunchtime. Got quite a bit done but not nearly enough. Just hope tomorrow works out OK
