Capturing my Journey

Ewes and Lambs heading back to the hill

Phew what a day and its not over with yet. Quite a few new lambs this morning. After breakfast husband and I brought in all ewes and lambs to the shed to put pour on (gives 10 weeks protection from the ticks)on them.Ticks is our next big killer with the lambs. Then they were off to the hill. But because this process involved bringing in a few pregnant ewes as we couldn't shed them off in the field we had to spend a couple of hours sorting and mothering up ewes and lambs. They aren't always the most cooperative!! We had to make sure all were correct before letting them go and that there were no expectant mothers in amongst them. All seems a success and the ewes are enjoying a flush of grass on the hill as it has been rested for a month.

Had to lift a set of twins off of an old ewe just now as she has no milk. This is her last year due to that and the lack of teeth on her poor old girl, she loved her babies. They are a noisy uncooperative pair, esp one of them who doesn't want milk from the bottle!

My lovely Shep is in the shed in intensive care I brought her in yesterday with very laboured breathing and looking very weak. She has had a good jag of antibiotics as well as some tonics etc and looking a little better today. I have lifted her lamb as she was struggling to cope with it whilst unwell. I am hoping she will pull through, she is a little brighter today so fingers crossed. So that's now 4 lambs in the pet lamb pen!!

Now I have the problem of a ewe in the shed that is very tight at her pelvis and not getting on with her lambing. Really worried about this one as worst case is I will loose the ewe if I cant get her lamb out so hoping she will loosen yet so I can help her lamb it.

Seemed to have skipped lunch and have no idea whats for dinner!! Oh the joys at least the sun is shining!!

14c 5mph easterly lovely sunny day, got all my washing dried on the line!!
