LOOK CLOSER

This beautiful Iris is in our herbaceous border and from a distance, looking out from indoors, it just fades into the background, but when I went out into the garden and looked at it more closely, I could see how beautiful it was.

I wonder if we are like that - perhaps we are shy or don't easily relate to people and often turn away, but when someone takes the trouble to get to know us, they can see things in us that they couldn't see from a distance.  We often call those things "hidden depths" - and it takes someone to draw them out, which reminded me of this verse:

The plan in a man’s heart 
     is like water in a deep well, 
          but a man of understanding 
               gets it out.
Proverbs 20:5

We had a great service at church this morning, during which Brenda, the mother of one of our members came to tell us about the work that is done in Bangalore, India, by a charity called Jacobs Well, "an international fair trade fashion production house with heart".   

Do have a look at their website here.  Many of us felt so humble hearing how young women in India, with the help of Jacobs Well, have turned their lives around, when we take so much in our lives for granted.
