Reigate Castle
This is a mock gateway from the 18th century standing on the grounds of where Reigate Castle would have originally stood. The castle was probably built by the second earl of Surrey, William de Warrenne, soon after 1088 but none of the original castle buildings have survived, with the exception of the Barons' Cave. The 'pyramid' that can be seen through the archway provided an exit from the Baron's Cave which can still be visited on special open days.
I walked round the castle grounds and the park today before brunch in Reigate. 6 meals out in the past 7 days has been lovely but definitely not helpful for weight loss!!! Oh well...tomorrow's another day!
