Historic pump

The first European person to occupy the Belair Park’s Government farm, according to historians, was Nicholas Foott, who was there prior to 1840 when Governor Gawler decided to establish the Government Farm.

He must be recognised for his enthusiasm in venturing into the heavily wooded valleys and hills and  carving out a livelihood as well as having the first dwelling in the area.  He also built a stone cottage near Minno Creek and spent some £500 on the property, even though he held no title to it. That was a huge amount of money back then.

Nicholas Foott dug this well in 1839 to supply water for his house, garden, and stock.  It was 10 feet deep with three feet of water which was drawn by hand.  Later this pump was added.
