Breakfast
This morning Chris and I did the third breeding bird transect of the year at Thorpe Wood - blackcaps are now present in good numbers. There was also a sparrowhawk and a couple of treecreepers, as well as the very vociferous nuthatch who must certainly be breeding.
I went back after breakfast to take some photographs. This blue-tit flew into the branches of a hazel, just above my head, and proceeded to spend some time extracting overwintering insects from the withered hazel leaf, using its tweezer-like beak with great precision.
