The grass is greener
over this side. I spotted these sheep and lambs all at the edge of the field munching away while on the first leg of a walk (the Exe Valley Way) from the mouth of the River Exe to its source.
The land in the distance is part of the Powderham Castle estate and the building is a folley known as the Belvedere which was erected in 1773. It is a pseudo-medieval Gothic tower, that became a romantic object in the landscape in its own right and the subject of various watercolours.
Our journey started with a ferry from Exmouth across the river to Starcross and we then all walked alongside the river and later the Ship Canal into Exeter Quay.
A pity that I misplaced my bank card, rail pass and bus pass during the trip and have spend all evening looking for them. To no avail.
