Primrose in the evening

Not much to record about today, other than the death of Mike Powell who was one of the two giants of nonlinear optimization, the other being my supervisor, Roger Fletcher. Their names aren't widely known, but the theory and algorithms devised by such figures in the field are fundamental to optimal decision-making in almost every field of organised human activity.
