Late Summer Harvest

Being on irrigation we are in an intensive farming area, which attracts dairy farmers, market gardeners, fruitgrowers and as here, broad acre cropping.
This particular property on our road has been set up with a state of the art underground watering system.  Every row of maize is fed by a micro drip system.  This results in a very even crop throughout, mainly for export. Our main worry once harvest starts, is the exodus of numbers of resident snakes - usually tiger snakes.  We have had them in the pool, around the poultry and even once, in the house. We have to be very vigilant. Fortunately the cold snap will slow them down a bit. Those high tension power lines run the breadth of Victoria and further.  I will be happy when we put in place a sustainable renewable energy program.
