A walk along the Wharfe
What a gorgeous day. We just had to make the most of it so up early and off to Barden Bridge to walk along the River Wharfe through Strid Woods.
The River was beautifully calm except at the infamous Strid and everything we heard and saw epitomised the best of Spring:
Mandarin ducks and our first sighting of ducklings.,
Woodpeckers and Sand Martins flitting in and out of the river bank,
rabbits,
Greylag geese, without the ubiquitous Canada Geese,
butterflies including a Peacock,
Wood anemones and lesser Celandine - seen here by the path,
Bluebells and wild Primroses.
The trees are greening up and the wild garlic will be in flower very soon.
I usually do this walk with a large group of ladies and dogs but it was just Chris and me today. We took our time and - shock, horror ladies - stopped for a coffee at the Cavendish Pavillion!
We didn't miss out on our tea and scones though. Back to Bolton Abbey in the car and to the Tea Rooms overlooking the Abbey on a perfect day.
