Amplified
Wide Angle Wednesday: Interior
Back when rock'n'roll was young, and Leo Fender was still making guitars and amplifiers under his own name, they used valves in amplifiers instead of transistors and printed circuit boards. Even today most guitarists will want to play through a valve amp to get "the tone", whether playing live or recording in a studio. If you hang out with guitarists you will notice that they spend quite a lot of time talking about "tone", although in my experience one man's tonal holy grail is another man's wasp in a jar....
This is a shot of the interior of one of my guitar amps, and yes this one uses valves. Quite a few of them in fact, which means it gets quite warm after a night's playing at gig volumes. You cannot see many of the valves in this shot as they are hidden towards the back in the shadows. The four big chaps showing off, with the (to my mind) attractive blue phosphorescence, are the valves for the main output stage.
Many thanks to Paladian who has taken over curating Wide Angle Wednesday this week and who has set us all the challenge of "Interior". You can see the other entries here.
Soapbox Thursday again tomorrow ....
