The ice lake
Tourist activities predominated today as we took our friends up to the Lac des Bouillouses which was still frozen over. I put them on the famous little yellow train to Mont Louis, the second highest station in France at around 1500 metres (the next stop is a fraction higher) and then we walked around the lakes up at Bouillouses. The snow was only just melting and there was water running everywhere. It was a delight. We then found a small restaurant where we had local dishes, terrine aux cèpes, brochettes de boles de picolat et saucisse Catalan and mel i mato. The boles de picolat are a sort of pork meatball with a tomato and olive sauce and the mel i mato is honey on a curd cheese or fromage frais. More pictures of the nature reserve can be seen here.
