DRUMMING ON A SUNNY AFTERNOON
I met two friends for coffee today and I already had my Blip sorted after seeing some lovely fruit and vegetables outside one of the coffee shops which is also a delicatessen and sells lots of lovely things.
However, when I went down into the town afterwards, I saw these two lads, Josh and Oli, who call themselves the Guildford Bucket Drummers, and who were performing in the town centre. They were having a wonderful time and quite a lot of people stopped to watch and listen.
You can see they have an assortment of "drums" - and not only buckets! Oli was happily drumming away on buckets and saucepans and when they stopped, they apologised to several of the people from nearby shops for being so loud! One of the ladies from a nearby jewellers came over and spoke to Josh and said it was good to hear them, which I think pleased him.
I had a chat with them and found out their names - I told them that my granddaughter was a drummer and was at the Swindon Academy of Music and Sound - they were very interested and said they both had a degree in music. I told them that until Charlotte started drumming, I never realised that you could drum right or left handed, and she is a left handed drummer, so if ever we go to one of her gigs, she is always on last, because the drums have to be changed to accommodate her being left handed.
They kindly gave me the name of a drummer - Carter Beauford of the Dave Matthews Band and said I should tell her about him, if she doesn't already know about him.
They obviously love drumming and it was a joy to listen and to chat to them. A sunny afternoon well spent! Just found them on Youtube so you can listen here.
If a man does not keep pace
with his companions,
perhaps it is because he hears
a different drummer.
Let him step to the music
which he hears,
however measured or far away.
