Today was the official first day of summer here in Iceland, and a public holiday. The temperature hovered around freezing all day, but the sun was out most of the day, we even wore sunglasses when we went for a walk. There was a programme at the Agricultural university in our town, and both the prime minister and the president gave speeches. We deliberately avoided the place while they were there, but took a walk there later to look at all the trees and plants they are cultivating in their green houses. Some of them are even indigenous to my home country, South Africa, and it was nice to see those familiar ones blooming in this foreign country under artificial circumstances. We walked over the bridge above the waterfall on the way back.
