Rider of Madara

In February this year, Camphill Blair Drummond were contacted by the Bulgarian Ambassador to Scotland, Nikolia Zhelev. He had been told about this panel we have above the fireplace in the library and was keen to visit.

The panel, entitled the "Rider of Madara", is carved in olive wood and is a copy of a carving on a rock in the small town of Madara, Bulgaria. It was given to Sir Kay Muir by King Boris of Bulgaria, on the occasion of his marriage in 1924 to Nadedja Stancioff, daughter of the Bulgarian Ambassador to London.

During the duartion of their marriage and until Sir Kay's death in 1951, Blair Drummond House hosted many parties and entertained some very famous and important house guests including Theodore Roosevelt, President of the United States, and Haile Selassie of Ethopia, both of whom he had met when hunting in Africa.

On 11 March the Ambassador and members of his family visited Blair Drummond House. They spent a couple of hours touring the building and grounds and were very impressed with all that they saw.
