First night (well, not quite)
The refurbished Regent Street Cinema (which is part of the University) is due to open in May. This week the cinema has held three trial runs to test out the facilities, exclusively for University staff and students. I got tickets for myself and Anne-Marie for this evening's screening of The Shining.
The cinema is the location of the Lumiere brothers' Cinematographe screening of the first performance of moving images to a paying British audience, and is therefore known as the birthplace of British cinema. The refurbished cinema restores many of the features of the Victorian building whilst providing a state-of-the-art modern cinema facility.
We had a drink in the bar beforehand, sat in nice comfortable seats in the cinema and went for something to eat afterwards, so it was a good evening.
As for the film - neither of us had seen it before. Everyone told us it was really scary, but I thought it was definitely 'of its period' (1980) and actually looked a bit tame now.
