It's got to be a good day when a Children's Laureate tells you she loves your shoes right?

Had the amazing privilege of meeting Dame Jacqueline Wilson - a fellow speaker at an event today, where we shared a stage with an outstanding female specialist renal surgeon. The audience was over 400 women, who were fundraising for Kidney Research UK.

I hadn't realised that Dame Jacqueline had a kidney transplant just last December, aged 72. She is so so wonderful - so funny, eloquent and mischievous. I love the impact her fabulous books have had on so many children and young people.

She actually began her writing career with DC Thompson in Dundee on Jackie magazine - her telling of her time there was a true delight.

And I managed to get through my speech without falling over or forgetting what I wanted to say. Result :)
