Times Of My Life

At the end of the day

The planned roadtrip for me, Mum and my sister Marion started relatively early.  We set off from Perth about 9.30am, and travelled to Newtonmore, where we stopped to stretch our legs and let Millie the Westie out for a wee walk.

After coffee and bacon sandwiches, we made our way to Inverness, where we met up with my cousin Christine and her husband, and had some more coffee and lovely home baked fruit loaf.  Then it was onward and upward to Burghead, just a few miles from Elgin, where we had booked accommodation at the caravan park right down at the beach.

When we had unpacked, and made a wee sortie to the nearest 'supermarket' (a tiny Scotmid) for the basics (toilet paper, milk and beer) we carried out a reconnoitre of the local eateries (eh - seem to be 2 hotels serving food).  We chose the Harbour Inn, which turned out to be an excellent decision, as it was a dog-friendly pub/restaurant, and was very pleased to welcome Millie.  She in turn, was delighted to welcome the attentions of the landlord's big collie; Bernie apparently is also known as 'Loverdog' due to his many and various dalliances with the local bitches!

When we had eaten, we drove down to near the harbour, and parked the car to watch the sun set over the water.  To our absolute delight and surprise, a troup of bottlenose dolphins appeared and began to play in the bay.  We watched them for about 20 minutes.  Sadly  I never managed to get a shot of them, but my sister did.  It was amazing to watch them play and tease each other.

Back to our spacious big caravan, where we phoned my older brother and all sang 'Happy Birthday' to him, and after a wee walk in the woods with Millie, a little bit of telly and a chat about our plans for the following day, we were all in bed pretty early.

Lovely day.
