What a difference a day makes....

Although the sun was shining when we woke, it soon clouded over and windy. The trip over the Kirkstone Pass was in thick cloud and the light in Windermere, or rather Bowness was so flat that a black and white image seemed to capture the mood effectively.

We spent an hour or so looking at properties but, like last year couldn't see anything that struck us as THE place so we went to Booth's for a coffe and scone. I almost posted the scone and coffee as today's blip, with the cunning title - "a different sort of rocky face" as the scone was lovely and craggy.

Following the scone we trawled around the outdoor clothing shops, tried lotas of stuff on, didn't buy anything so went to look at the lakeshore where this shot was taken.

By this time we  had to be on our way to Manchester, Hayfield to be precise where we were staying for a couple of days to help celebrate the birthdays on my nephews, one of who was 18 and the other 13. But we had to go via the Lune Valley Bakery in Kirkby Longsdale for an early tea. This is a favourite place of ours as the food is good, including the cakes. I was going to have soup followed by jacket potato but was pursuaded by the waitress that, as the portions were very large, that the jacket potato would be sufficient. I did have a cake afterwards.

On to the final part of the day, a jaunt down the M6, M61, M60 and M67 and over the moors to Hayfield where we had a room in the George Hotel in the village. An unexpected evening ensued when we were invited to the "Friday Gin Club" up the road from my brother's house. More food and strangely very little gin as most people drank wine.
