Dawn Service - Anzac Day 2015

It was a full and emotional day as record numbers turned out to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Anzac landing at Gallipoli.
With no WWI veterans still living and the ranks of WW2 diggers fast dwindling, their places are being taken by the young who lay wreaths and join the march wearing their ancestor's medals.

For the first time I marched, wearing my mother's medals. She served in the Australian Women's Army Corps. It didn't feel quite right being applauded by the large crowd (most of the population of Narromine it seemed) and I had to keep reminding myself I was doing it for her and for my grandfathers.

As special guests of the RSL my brother and I enjoyed meeting other descendants of men who enlisted from the Narromine area, including the girl I started school with and hadn't seen for over 50 years.
