The argument was wide-ranging and hard-hitting. It covered politicians, politics, gender-politics, sex, discrimination, indiscriminate use of the word "discrimination" and the decriminalisation of drugs. It touched upon the Meaning of Existence, the Existence of Meaning and the meaning of the word "existential". It spent quite a lot of time discussing the concepts of Faith, Hope and Charity but glossed over their uses as girls' names. There was a lengthy detour around the precise definition of Charity and whether any truly selfless act could ever exist. Ditto for free lunches, free expression and free love.

But it had all started when they ran out of jam.
