HMS Somerset
HMS Somerset, a Type 23 frigate is open to the public in Leith today, having just arrived in port from having busted a Tanzanian registered tug carrying large amounts of cocaine, well done guys.
It was really good fun looking round the ship and having the sailors explain their jobs. KryptoMart and I even had a go manning the machine gun!
If you are in Leith, pop down to the cruise liner terminal and visit the ship, which is open till 4pm this afternoon ... it is free, too.
Here is the white ensign, as used by Royal Navy ships, which incorporates the St George's Cross (St George's Ensign).
On July 9 1864, the Admiralty ruled that the flag – flown by all serving Royal Navy warships, ship’s boats, Royal Marines craft, naval bases and establishments at home and overseas – would become the Service’s only standard, marking it apart from the merchant fleet.
In the 150 years since, the White Ensign has become the iconic symbol of British seapower – and has spawned similar naval flags, particularly in Commonwealth countries.
I hope you have all had a good Sunday.
