Canongate in Spring
The deep cerise of the cherry blossom in the Canongate Kirk yard was stopping people in their tracks.
In a year's time, it might be the shock of what is being built just uphill that brings them to a shuddering halt.
It looks like preparations are well underway to demolish the 1930s tenements that are in the way of the developer's grand vision for a new Old Town, including a second New St, hotels (yes, plural), offices/shops and apartments. Some will have to be 'affordable' but I'm fairly sure tethered won't be many and they'll be tucked down the bottom of the site by the railway bridge, out of the sun.
Must revisit the plans.
