Mudskipper.

At some point in our past, some of the fish got bored of swimming around doing bugger all and thought it might be fun to use their fins to crawl out of the water.
One thing led to another and after countless millenia these fish developed into humans who lived in boats on the water. By a process of osmosis these vessels appear to be following in the footsteps (finsteps) of their distant ancestors.
